Tobacco Prevention
Funded by the Paso del Norte Health Foundation
Tobacco Exposed
- A curriculum that offers agencies that serve children of all ages a single lesson opportunity. Presentations for grades Kindergarten through 12th grade provided in out of school settings regarding the dangers of using tobacco products (afterschool programs, sports clubs, afterschool clubs, etc.)
- Parent presentations on how to talk to kids about not using tobacco products
El Paso Clean Air Ordinance
Fresh-Start Tobacco Cessation Program
A curriculum for adults wanting to quit smoking. Classes consist of four lessons that help participants choose a quit date, learn about the benefits of quitting, deal with withdrawal, and preventing relapse.
Eat Well! El Paso
Funded by the Paso del Norte Health Foundation
- Restaurant Initiative: work and recognize locally owned restaurants to create healthier children and adult menu

Texas Healthy Communities
Texas Healthy Communities (TXHC) is funded by the Texas Department of State Health Services and developed by the Heart Disease & Stroke Program. TXHC recognizes cities for having environmental and policy infrastructure and practices in place that are public health priorities for reducing cardiovascular disease, stroke, and other chronic diseases.
The Healthy Community initiatives, as determined by the CDC, are designed to focus on:
- promoting physical activity and nutrition
- reducing tobacco use and exposure
- building capacity to implement policy, system, environmental and organizational changes related to chronic disease risk factors
- fostering improved access to care
- reducing/eliminating health disparities
- reducing complications and incidence of chronic diseases
